upgraded from pentium d 2.66 /easy install /win 7 7 did not have to reinstall os/stock fan is quiet/ran program speed fan after install crashed cpu appears to be issue with program and board.

I upgraded from the launch edition E6400 c2d CPU. I wanted to go I7 or I5, but the cost of new DDR3 ram and motherboard was simply too much. My P5k-E is still compatible with these new quad core cpu's so I decided to pick one up.
I bought this cpu to stretch the lifespan of my current pc. I went from an E6550 h 3GHz to this cpu. Even though this cpu is not overclocked yet just the fact that the two extra cores are there makes a difference. It can encode a 700mb avi and burn it to dvd in under 20 minutes. For comparison the e6550 did it in 43minutes average.
To be honest I wansn't expecting this much of a change. But I can get over how smooth the transition is between alt+tab-ing between a fullscreen game and the desktop or to a web browser. Pair this with win7 x64 and I'm laughing, cant go wrong.

The stock cooler is absolutely rubbish. The CPU would overheat constantly with it. An aftermarket cooler is a MUST. Even if you aren't doing any overclocking

My Q8400 came with the VT enabled. Works great for running Linux and Windows simultaneously with VT.Runs cool. Great price. Highly recommended.

Overall, an excellent processor and a much better alternative to the Q8300 as a 400FSB will allow a 3.2GHz chip with ease. It also comes with Intel's VT (for Windows 7's XP virtualization & servers) straight from production start compared to the Q8300 (and some other processors) who have only begun to ship with VT enabled.
