The cold air is drawn from outside to cool the fins directly:
The fins design optimize for air ventilation that enhance cooling performance:
Accelero S1 Rev. 2 features 4 thick copper heatpipes which connect directly from the GPU core. The heatpipes with sintered powder wicks provide ultimate heat conductivity. Heat from the GPU is rapidly dissipated through 32 fins that extend beyond the height of the graphic card. Optimized fin design allows better air flow thus removing the heat more effectively. Together with the bundled RAM heat sinks and voltage regulator heat spreader, Accelero S1 Rev. 2 provides an all-round passive solution that achieves the best cooling performance.

An extra pair of mounting clips provides extensive protection to the graphic card that prevents damage from improper handling. With the help of the new mounting design, Accelero S1 Rev. 2 is widely compatible with high end ATI and nVIDIA graphic cards.
Accelero S1 Rev. 2 can still be paired with the Turbo Module – the twin fans add-on, which further increases the potential power of Accelero S1 Rev. 2 with enhanced cooling performance under extremely quiet operation. Turbo Module helps boost up the GPU and memory overclockability, squeezing more graphic performance than ever before.

Despite a few draw backs, it is still very easy to recommend this cooler to anyone with a compatible video card. The performance is staggering, the noiseless operation is a blessing, and the $30 street price only seals the deal. The Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev 2 receives our Upgrader's Recommenda
An Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev. 2 with good airflow represents what can easily be called one of the best values in today’s high-end aftermarket GPU coolers. While it does not provide the absolute best cooling in the market, it surely represents a very good GPU cooler. You would be remiss if you d

Overall a great cooler with lots of cooling power with the proper fans. Pretty wide though so it may not fit into every case out there.

Bought this after I realized the Powercolor HD4870 stock cooler was behaving like a jet and didn't cool that well. This one makes the card run a bit hotter, but still does the job. I would have preferred to receive the turbo module with the rest of the package though.

I had installed this on a friends video card. Not very hard to install the cooler itself (removing stock coolers can be a pain). The ram sinks were highly annoying to install because they did not stick well. You were suppose to apply constant pressure for at least 15 seconds to each, which would result the ram sink moving a bit, and never being that straight. The size of the cooler is also pretty big, make sure to have enough room in your case to house this, as this will be bigger than most video cards.

Very good cooling performance. Strapped it onto a Radeon 4850 overclocked to 700/1100 and mounted a 120mm fan onto it. Idle temps dropped from 45C to 32C. Furmark load temps dropped from 95C to 63C. Without a fan, load temps were in the high 70s, but the memio would overheat with furmark, but after mounting the fan the memory was stable at 90c, and that was one thing I noticed is that without the fan the core would stay cool, but the memory gets a little toasty cause they are ramsinks and aren't connected directly to the heatsink, so I would recommend putting a fan onto it. However I haven't tested this at stock speeds so there might be no problems at stock speed, but this is especially necessary if you have a faster card, like a 4870 or a 4890.

Got this on sale and it works very well. It cools my 8800gt without a fan better than the stock cooler with a fan. Then again, I do have a big case with good air flow.

Well worth the money. My 4850 was getting temps well over 100 Celsius with the default cooler, and now those temps are in the 60s. A 30-40 degree drop for $30 bucks is well worth it in my book. Installation was also fairly easy, although the instructions come off as being un-necessarily complicated.

I have the first model of the 8800gt's, and the heat sinks that were included with the kit for the voltage regulators do not fit well with this model. I assume the newer cards have these regulators in a straight line across the card, whereas mine were spaced differently. I also found that when you are ready to install the black spacer clips, you should put them in-place on the heat sink before you screw it into place on the card. Separating the card from the heat sink to squeeze those clips in between the slats do not work.

When folding (full load) I used to get 91~°C with a HIS 3870 Stock. Now with this I see it jump betwwen 58-62°C with the odd 67°C for half a second. At the moment I don't have a fan on it, or even a side case fan as this thing is so wide I had to remove it from my NZXT Apollo. Kind of sad because I feel like I nudered my case.

Amazing. Made my 8800gt go from hot and kinda loud to cool and nearly inaudible (with the 2 fan turbo module). If your videocard supports this cooler, this is the one to get. Installation is simple and the performance is unmatched.

If you like quiet then this is a perfect marriage! It's a wonder that some video card makers still put fans on some cards after installing 3 of these on Radeon 4850's and 1 on a Geforce 8600GT.
