With PS4’s HDCP Disabled, Use AVerMedia’s Capture Devices to Enhance Gameplay
Taiwan—May 28, 2014
announced on their PlayStation
Blog a system software update
to the PlayStation 4 that can disable High-bandwidth Digital Content
Protection (HDCP). Eliminating an elaborate pass-through to capture video
will appeal to gamers who enjoy sharing their content with others. Now,
record gameplay directly from PS4 with the upgraded firmware 1.7 using any
AVerMedia HDMI capture devices, including AVerMedia’s CV710 ExtremeCap
Gamer Portable (LGP), GL310 LGP
Lite, C285 Game
Capture HD II, C985 Live
and the upcoming EzRecorder
With PS4, the
HDCP toggle is all or nothing: once HDCP is turned off, then that feature
applies for all apps on the console. Unlike the component cables previously
required, gamers can record directly off any of the four AVerMedia capture
devices. The 1.7 update that includes the HDCP off feature landed globally
on April 30, 2014.
empowers gamers to showcase a staggering range of new footage via the
AVerMedia capture devices. In particular, this change benefits YouTube
gamers and online audiences, whose numbers may likely grow with the surge of
new materials. Using the HDMI or component inputs, save content directly
onto an SD card PC-free via LGP or onto a PC via LGP Lite. For gamers with
USB 3.0 ports, use ExtremeCap U3 to record and stream 1080p 60fps gameplay.
Alternatively, use Game Capture HD II to preserve gameplay in pristine HD
quality before editing and sharing directly to YouTube.

devices: ExtremeCap U3, Live Gamer Portable (LGP), LGP Lite, Game Capture HD

It no longer takes a long time to upload or transcode the footage you want to share. |
| Ultra Portable |
| The Live Gamer Portable provides the option of "PC-Free Mode", allowing you to record the gameplay without a PC. Just flip the switch, insert a SD card, and you are ready to go! Under PC-Free Mode, Live Gamer Portable can be powered by your game platform via USB, with no additional power outlet needed. Small, Portable, comes with all cables, Captures 1080p, Onboard/standalone capture.
challenge to set up if you want to stream. Web forum support is limited
I bought this specifically to stream PS3 gameplay, and initially had a challenging time setting it up. In terms of capturing gameplay, the software works fine. In terms of streaming, you have to install another program which can be a challenge to configure within Xsplit or OBS. None the less, I did get it work after around 3 hours of following limited online instructions on the Avermedia web forum. There are limited official instructions for configuring this.

-Compact, stylish looking & easy to setup and use.
-The bundled RECentral software is clean and simple to use.
-Takes up literally no CPU & system resources.
-Excellent capturing quality with everything 1080p b30fps.
-Able to save your voice over as a separate mp3 file. Making it easy for editing.
-A great value product with the on Sale price. Consider the kind of features it packs within the package.
Nearly none..... but wait…
It does not record older consoles with composite video output. e.g. SNES,Game Cube, SEGA Saturn, Dreamcast and the Atari system!??
Minor one is that it requires a restart of your computer after each time you disconnect & reconnect the USB power on to the device in order to have the sound working properly.
And really really really to pick on another one is, it didn’t come with a 16GB Class10 SD card in the box! haha =)
I was originally looking at the Hauppauge PVR 2 Gaming Edition capturing device; as it costs less than the AVerMedia LGP and does the same job (maybe even slightly better image quality but only situational). However, after seeing a few review videos of the Live Gamer Portable; knowing how compact this thing is (it can fit into your Jeans’ pocket) and able to record directly on to a SD card, AVerMedia had me convinced to pay a little extra for what they are offering in the package.
