Both the 3TB and 1TB version are the most energy efficient and quiet models we've tested in their respective capacities. Seek noise is almost nonexistent and vibration levels are excellent.
Western Digital's Red family is a well-rounded offering aimed at home- and SOHO-based NAS appliances.
The Red drives aren’t as attractive once you step outside of Western Digital's target usage model of small business network-attached storage and into more demanding professional application

did not encounter any problem so far. want the Red series because has long warranty and claim it'll last. going to do lots of video editing and pic storage trust WD for their quality.

Great price for a drive of this quality. Just be sure you have a 64 bit Windows system if you want to make 1 big GPT partition of 3 TB. If not, you will be limited to 2.2 TB partition on 32 bit system.

If you run your drives 24x7 in a non-rack mount, this is the drive for you. Of course it is quite. And of course it is the size specified. It will be several years before people are able to comment as to how reliable these drives are. But if you are like me and sick of dead desktop rated drives, this one has the specifications you are looking for.
Good quiet disk for home nas. Got about 115MB/sec read/write with qnap 469l (almost max of gigabit link). Probably not the best for boot disk, but fast enough for nas solutions. Got defect disk, but very good service from ncix rma dept to get new one fast. Replacement is perfect. Very happy so far.

Product Warranty
First 30 days limited warranty through NCIX.com. The remainder of the two year warranty is provided directly by the manufacturer.
Warranty length may vary per specific model. Western Digital Raptor and Caviar RE series enterprise drives are covered by a 5 year warranty. Caviar and Caviar Blue & Green desktop drives are covered by a 2 year warranty for OEM drives, and a 1 year warranty for Retail.
Warranty coverage for drives is covered by NCIX for the first thirty (30) days with the remainder of the warranty covered by Western Digital.
