SilverStone created an excellent extension card product, the EC04, which connects to the motherboard via single lane PCI Express 2.0 to support two external and a dual port USB 3.0 connector for maximum compatibility and flexibility. This card is a great add-on for systems that require connections to multiple USB 3.0 devices such as SilverStone’s own USB 3.0 enclosures RVS02 and TS07.

I bought this because because my board did not have a header for front USB 3.0, works great but I do worry about the plate, seemed like a bit on the weak side.

Used this with a cable adapter (SKU 63940) to connect USB3 casefront ports. Windows 8 recognized it immediately and did not need drivers. A mini-CD supports XP-Vista-Win7.
The big selling point was the internal USB 3.0 header. My motherboard only has one such header and I needed another for two more 3.0 ports on my chassis.
I purchased this for use with a USB 3.0 external hard drive that I purchased, however the drive keeps disconnecting and stops working frequently when connected to this controller. Copying files just stutters and freezes, and sometimes windows reports disconnects and reconnects.
