I purchased this for my Father as his first wireless router. I personally have the Asus RT-N16 with TomatoUSB installed on it and love it. I was worried a bit about leaving the RT-12 with the stock software on it but so far it has been great for him. No dropped data streams or anything so far. He uses the router to wirelessly stream youtube and sports events to his 60" TV located one room over and has no issue whatsoever. It is also used for a couple of cell phones with regular email usage and web surfing and no problems at all. I found that getting the cell phones identified on the network was more work then Tomato is but I finally got them to be recognized. The range on this is not as great as my RTN16 but it is very adequate for a smaller home with less data traffic. I would recommend this router even with the stock software.

Great router for the price, friend just received his a couple weeks ago. First thing we did was install Toastman Tomato, and it's working great. Just remember to use the RT-N build for version B of the RT-N12. Not sure how the slower processor will handle QoS on larger environments. But for his home with 5 computers and up to 10 devices it's rock solid.

Have to admit I bought this to play with it. Had just a little problem setting it up with the IP address -- Opera wouldn't access it so used MS Browser. Everything went fine except it wouldn't readily see my router because Win 7 had opened messages (to clear) and they were hidden behind the browser screen.
Good router so far. I am using this as a repeater and so far has been a success. Much better coverage throughout my house now for wireless internet. Setup was a breeze. Plugged in the router, connected it to my laptop to setup via the IP address.
