I bought this processor with an Asrock 970 extreme 3 mobo during the boxing week sale for about 135$ to replace my old gigabyte model and AMD Phenom X2 II 4 core (2 unlocked cores) processor.
Bought this as part of a bundle for a budget gaming system for a friend. Did not bother overclocking as he mostly plays older games, and this CPU will automatically clock itself up to 3.9 GHz on a single core for intensive applications like a game that only utilizes a single core. Stock fan is loud until you go into your BIOS and set the smart fan settings and minimum fan speeds. Once I did that the fan is quiet enough to not need replacing. Combined with an SSD, a GTX460, and 8gb of RAM it was a nice little system, can't think of what could beat it in that price range.

Ok, so I don't know what some people are talking about, but my "day-to-day" apps run super snappy. Want things to fire-up faster? Get an SSD, no heat issues, no OC'ing required, compact in size, and very friggin' snappy.
As time goes on I keep buying more and more AMD components. I choose this processor due to the power verses cost ratio - which cannot be beat. So I'm really happy with it! Easily overclocked too which is a bonus! (Not to mention 6 cores just sounds cool)
I am not sure why I bought this one instead of an FX-4170. I knew ahead of time that for now four core chips are better for gaming than 6 core.
However I am pretty happy with this thing, nonetheless. Plus I don't game all that much now a days anyway. I might play FarCry 3 when it comes out and Borderlands 2 maybe.

I had to buy this CPU so I could use my new motherboard (GIGABYTE 78LMT-USB3) as my old cpu was not supported. It is just as fast as the old cpu (Phenom II X4 965 BE)and is great at multitasking, gaming and everything else you could want. For the price it was purchased at ($109.99) I would call it a great bang for the buck cpu. Very happy with this purchase. Also I am using the CoolerMaster Hyper 212+ cpu cooler, not the stock heatsink and fan and it is running cool and quiet at 3.8 GHz.
