Comment: For a 2.5-inch unit, it's one of the fastest SSD tested.

Comment: The SSD 510 Series, Intel's replacement for its once–industry leading X25-M drive solid-state drive, turns out fine numbers in some circumstances, but its random-access speeds may be a turn off for more advanced power users.

Comment: The 510 Series' quick copy performance paid huge dividends with at least one of our multitasking workloads, and the drive was pretty competitive with the rest. However, it's clear that Intel's optimizations have cost the 510 Series in other areas. Random reads were a little slow with sma

Comment: "we honestly expected more. This drive sits within many of the upper tier SATA 2 drives that we have evaluated and, with the IOPS specifications that they have provided, we can’t help but think of this to be a solid entry as Intels mid-level SSD."

Comment: "...Intel seems to have deliberately optimized for sequential transfers, moving large files around. Perhaps this was done to purposely demonstrate the benefits of a 6 Gb/s interface. [...]it looks like you’d get a better all-around experience from OCZ’s Vertex 3 when it becomes available."

Comment: "While we were glad to see Intel step up and release this 6Gb/sec part, I can't help but feel this was a bit of a rush job. While the drive performed decently and reliably, I certainly didn't get that same feeling of performance awesomeness present with each of their previous releases."

Comment: most interesting over a 6Gbps interface. Connected to a 3Gbps interface the drive is quick, but fails to distance itself from the high end drives of last year. This is the same conclusion I came to when I previewed the Vertex 3. These next-generation SSDs not only use 6Gbps SATA, they really need it

Comment: solid top-tier drive, although not as high performing as the newly released OCZ Vertex 3. In the consumer space Intel has been satisfied marketing themselves as the solid choice for those buyers who are interested in very good performance, but still place a lot of weight on endurance and reliability

An expensive SSD but probably the most reliable drive out there at this moment. But if you're not willing to spend this much, a much lower priced Sandforce offering may do a much better if you are lucky enough to not run into any problems. (Read More)
