RT-N56U specifications and abilities were quite intriguing: the box boasted hardware NAT implementation and it was claimed that the router could simultaneously work in two wireless ranges – 2.4 and 5 GHz with optimized the coverage of the wireless network segment.
The Black Diamond is a solid router. Its speed and reliability alone chalk it up to awesome in my book. Even more is the dual-band connectivity, which basically amounts to having two routers in one.

Old Cisco router kept disconnecting all the users in the house so I decided to replace it with this. Worked within 5 minutes of settings it up, very simple and just works. After dealing with whole bunch of PC problems for the past couple of weeks along with midterms, sometimes you just want to buy a well testing product that simply works with no headache :)
Suggest flashing it with custom firmware, http://code.google.com/p/rt-n56u/, unlock more capability like VPN server, jumbo frame support and so on.

Close to when I got it, I decided to update the firmware to the latest (1.0,1.8n). With this firmware I lost connection on the wireless a few times over a few days so I reverted back to what I got from the factory (1.0.1.7f) which seems better. I haven't had many issues at all, but this has cropped up:
It worked extremely well for 7mths. I decided to change 2.4ghz wifi channels to eliminate interference from a neighbour. I did several changes monitoring surrounding wifi with the program inSSIDe.
I am really surprised on the amount of great reviews this router has on here! If you look in the forum section for this item you'll even see people bashing it as it really has a hard time working. Lots of dropped signal (I've tested other routers with keeping everything else the same so I know it's a problem with the router). Even updating to the knew firmware didn't help. The router is useless to me now and I really wish I waited for it a few months after it was released since there are a lot of people online having issues.
If you need maximum performance from your internet feed for torrents and other high connection based activities this is the router for you, wireless performance is great as well.

Had this for a month and works flawlessly and looks sharp. Great software that comes with it and easy set up. I would recommend this to anyway if they are looking for a duel band connection.
