First bar I got was defective to the point of being dangerous (Not/Neutral reversed). Check it before you plug in anything of value. i.e Use a lamp or a circuit tester.
Bought this for a build I did for my uncle, just as some added protection. Got it for 6 dollars after pricematch which seemed like a good deal. Not much else to say, it's a powerbar, and it does that well. I can't speak to the effectiveness of the surge protector as it's never had to do anything, but it is a good idea to include one just incase. You can never be to careful with these kinds of things.

Defective software, video games or DVDs
