The Sonata Proto is solid, and no worse than its predecessors. If you just need a small no-frills chassis for a workstation or momputer, you could do worse. But we’d be hard-pressed to recommend this case for much else.
The overall construction is solid with no sharp edges and a few nice features sprinkled in such as the SSD mount (we'd like to see this more often) and the silicone grommets for the HDD mounts. All which far outweigh the minor flaws we observed.
The Sonata Proto is a stripped-down version from Sonata III 500. A good choice for those who don't want the Earthwatts 500W PSU included with the Sonata 500.

For the price, this is a very good case. The sound damping is among the best of the many mid-towers I have used over the years. No problems so far, build quality is nice, and the front door locks as well. The only con I can think of is that it can get cramped inside when working with large video cards.

I bought this case a few years ago so my computer wouldn't be so loud in my room. Now that I use a laptop as my room computer this thing was deafeningly loud in comparison.
I scratch-built my first PC in 2003 starting with a Sonata (Sonata I) case. That was possibly the best of all the Sonata cases I've used... I've not seen the IV. I then built with a Sonata III around 2007-2008. I preferred the Sonata I for its excellent paint job even if it was a bit dated looking. I found the Sonata III noisier (with the same hardware inside).
