Intel Core i7 processors deliver an incredible breakthrough in quad-core performance and feature the latest innovations in processor technologies:
Intel® Turbo Boost technology maximizes speed for demanding applications, dynamically accelerating performance to match your workload—more performance when you need it the most.²
Intel® Hyper-Threading technology enables highly threaded applications to get more work done in parallel. With 8 threads available to the operating system, multi-tasking becomes even easier.³
Intel® Smart Cache provides a higher-performance, more efficient cache subsystem. Optimized for industry leading multi-threaded games.
Intel® QuickPath Interconnect is designed for increased bandwidth and low latency. It can achieve data transfer speeds as high as 25.6 GB/sec with the Extreme Edition processor.
Integrated memory controller enables three channels of DDR3 1066 MHz memory, resulting in up to 25.6 GB/sec memory bandwidth. This memory controller's lower latency and higher memory bandwidth delivers amazing performance for data-intensive applications.
Intel® HD Boost significantly improves a broad range of multimedia and compute-intensive applications. The 128-bit SSE instructions are issued at a throughput rate of one per clock cycle, allowing a new level of processing efficiency with SSE4 optimized applications.

So we get back to my original question: "Is the i7 all hype?" Looking at the physical architectural differences between the i7 and the Core 2 series, Intel has made some significant changes in their new processor line. The Nehalem is not just a warmed-over Core 2 Quad, there are enough changes in th

I bought this CPU on sale, and with its overclockability, it made for a great purchase. I'm currently running it at 4.2GHz with water cooling, and no stability issues whatsoever. It does tend to draw quite a bit of extra power when under full load overclocked, though (100 Watts over idle), so you need to make sure you have a power supply to handle it.
Good price, high performance. I get 7.5/7.9 from Windows Experience Index. The i7 920 is soo fast! The content include fan cooling with thermal paste, which is enough to run it normally. Good stuff!
Great CPU, performance is excellent, can be overclocked by a LOT with the right set up. Liquid OC goes even further. The only downsides to the i7 920 is that it runs HOT so make sure that you have ample airflow and a good cooler or you'll be frying your CPU's lifespan.
This processor does everything with ease. Triple channel memory means you can easily run 6GB. But, may not be the best choice for future upgrades, as SandyBridge will most likely be on another socket.
Don't bother buying the 930, 50, 60, and 975, the 920 OC's to their speeds and beyond. QPI is the only limiter. Tone down the CPU speed and QPI and the Corsair mem kit will run at 2.0-2.23GHZ. That is some serious speed on the mem bus. And the ram is cool as room temp.
I know I didn't need all this power but having a quad-core CPU that can do video encoding and image editing at a fast rate (which I do from time to time) along with gaming is such a relief. Easily eats up my old Athlon X2.
This is a great CPU of you want to get triple channel memory and lots of features. Overclocking is great on this as well. LGA 1366 is also a fairly good upgrade path for 6 and maybe 8 core cpus in the future.
The down side is you pay a fair bit more for little improvement over some of the 1156 counterparts.
A great upgrade that will make your computer a lot more powerful in games. I saw my fps almost double in Far Cry 2 and Resident Evil 5 after upgrading from a Quad Q6600. It runs cool and is very powerful, one of the best upgrade for gaming.
