Voltage fluctuations in my area are quite frequent and there are occassions when the power goes out for a few seconds. The OPTI-UPS ES550C has already saved me a lot of precious work since I purchased it 4 months ago. Very functional product!

First I tell you what this do. 1. It can boost the incomeing voltage and it can lower it. It also regenerates the signal to approximate a sine wave. This thing uses microprocessor to do that. That is good if you voltage has a lot of variable frequency devices, they add harmonics and such! It also has surge protection for utility power and RJ45 like you powerbar or surge buster. RJ45 is Recommended Jack 45 like ieee 802.3 and Ethernet. That a good thing because not may people know about lightning strike make it's way to you networking cables like 4 pair of unshielded twisted pair or some short circuit somewhere in the building or something. This also have heavy battery, I don't weigh it but at least 3 kilos - a lot heavier than APC battery. On the front it have "Battery Fault" light to work when battery not working right like over discharged. It also have "Battery Mode" and "AC Mode". It tell you and "beeps" when power to unit is cut off. This has RS232 port and no USB. I like to use RS 232 because NT Server 4.0 it have trouble with USB. The motherboard it have PS2 for keyboard and mouse so I okay with that.
One of the best features is the remote control outlets, there are two sets of outlets on this unit that can be controlled using the web-based software.
